Extraordinary People: Stories about Extraordinary People
Iesha Ramos is 16 years old, attends Essex County Vocational High School and just recently received a
kidney transplant. Iesha became sick during her freshman year in high school.
"I was missing a lot of school because of stomach pain.
My doctor kept telling me it was gastritis. But I wasn't getting better.
Every medicine they gave me, I just threw up."
Unfortunately, Iesha went undiagnosed for a year. In September of her
sophomore year, it was determined that her kidneys were failing and
she went onto dialysis. Iesha missed an entire year of school.
She underwent peritoneal dialysis while waiting for a kidney and hoping that her doctors will let her go back to school.
"I wasn't expecting this to happen to me but I am dealing with it okay. I just wanted to go back to school!"
Iesha finally got her wish and is back at vocational school thanks to her life-saving transplant.
