Extraordinary People: Stories about Extraordinary People
Antwan Hunter
At 10 months old, Antwan Hunter was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. By his first birthday his right kidney was so damaged that it had to be removed. He spent the next 12 years of his life doing everything a kid does. But at age 13 his left kidney began to fail and he was put on the list for a transplant. In March 2007 at the age of 16 he received a kidney from Jason Ray, the UNC-Chapel Hill mascot who was in New Jersey for the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament at the Meadowlands. Jason died several days after being hit by a car on Route 3 near the arena.
"It's been great since I received the kidney. I'm still doing what I was doing before. No more problems! I want to tell everyone to sign up to be a donor on your driver's license the way that Jason did!
